New Delhi, July. 24: The eagerly awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) will kick off on September 19 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
A well-known BCCI source told the media that the match will start on September 19, 2020. The IPL governing body meeting will be held next week to chalk out the final details and approve the schedule, it is learned that the BCCI has informed the franchisees about the project.
The IPL will start on September 19 (Saturday) and the finals will be held on November 8 (Sunday). It will be a 51-day event.
A senior BCCI official told media outlets on Thursday night about the conditions of anonymity. The ICL’s decision to postpone the October-November T20 World Cup in Australia due to the Covid-19 pandemic has made it possible for the host nation to be unable to host the event.
Despite speculation that the IPL will begin on September 26, the BCCI decided to advance it in a week to see if India’s team would not be in danger of touring Australia. “According to Australian government rules, the Indian team will have a 14-day mandatory restriction.
“The best part is that 51 days is not a shortened period and there are fewer double matches. We can stick to the original five double headers in the seven-week window,” he said.
The Indians will play a four-match Test series against Australia starting from December 3 in Brisbane. With each team needing at least a month to train, IPL franchises will be off base by August 20, giving them exactly four weeks to prepare.
The cash-rich event was originally scheduled to launch in late March but the Aougie I A-19 epidemic and travel restrictions were enacted to contain the virus, leading to an indefinite postponement. However, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly defended the event as being held for some time this year.
